The great city of Baltimore was rocked in March of 2024 when a container ship lost control and crashed into the Francis Scott Key bridge, collapsing it. The incident, which at this point appears to be an accident and not a deliberate act, sent vehicles–and people–into the cold water. The incident created chaos in supply chains around the world and highlighted the fragility and vulnerability of key infrastructure in one of America’s busiest large cities.
But Baltimore’s infrastructure has been crumbling for a long time, particularly at the street level, largely due to the lack of enforcement of “quality of life” crimes under disgraced former District Attorney Marilyn Mosby. And while no where near as unsanitary as those in the poop-filled streets of San Francisco, Baltimore has its own problems with human waste.
The situation is so out of control that is eroding the sides of some of the city’s historic buildings. Apparently, the people who creating the buildings did not plan for a constant stream of highly-acidic urine to splash against it constantly.
This issue is indicative of a wider problem confronting many of America’s great cities: they are literally pissing it all away. The Baltimore Banner explains that the problem isn’t so much rainfall, or even acid rain, but instead “golden showers.”
I mean, how many “golden showers” does it take in order to start eroding a BUILDING? Well, apparently it takes a lot. And that’s how much urine is flowing in the streets–and against the buildings–in Baltimore: a lot.
Public urination is an offense in Baltimore. But like so many other crimes and infractions, it is simply not enforced. And what happens to laws that are not enforced? Say it with me boys and girls: “laws that are not enforced, are not followed.“
Baltimore is one of America’s great cities. But like so many other large cities, the population is allowing itself to be held hostage by policies and practices that reduces everything that they worked so hard to build and maintain to… well, piss.
Here’s to hoping that Baltimore residents get pissed off enough to stop getting pissed on.
