In a classic case of overkill, a $300 ISIS “quadcopter” drone was destroyed by a $3 million US missile.
At the 2017 Association of the United States Army symposium, General David Perkins, head of the US Army’s Training and Doctrine Command, explained how the Army recently shot down a commercial drone used for reconnaissance and targeting by ISIS by using a highly advanced Patriot missile.
While I’m impressed that the Army could target something so small with a missile that big, I can only say that I hope we have a more cost-effective and more widely-available solution for the future, we’ll face adversaries who not only have better drones but a lot more of them.
