Knowledge is power, and you have to harness it however you can. There are always going to be several things that you can do to help you feel more awake as the day progresses. You will need to work out what will be best for you to get the most out of each day. Since everyone is so different, you need to work out what is going to be best for you – it could be a very different path from someone else also struggling with excessive sleepiness during the day.
Eat More Food
Are you eating enough? This could be a key reason as to why you feel tired throughout the day. You need to make sure that you are getting enough to eat so you are able to get through every task that you have in front of you. If you do not eat enough, you are not going to have the energy reserves to pull on when you need them the most.
In addition to getting enough to eat, you must also make sure that you are eating the right type of food. Try to pick nutritionally dense foods that will release energy slowly throughout the day. Many can end up thinking that they can just grab small snacks and meals on the go to give them little boosts of energy. While these will give tiny boosts as needed, they can cause crashes and other issues if they are high in sugar. Eating slow-release foods that will keep you fuller and more energized will help you to hopefully less tired throughout the day.
Exercise
When you exercise, your body releases endorphins that will help to perk you up. If you often find that you struggle to stay awake during the day, putting in a small workout somewhere can really help you to wake up and feel refreshed – especially if you feel tired right before the workout begins.
The nature of the workout does not really matter. Many different types of people who enjoy fitness report feeling some sort of high after they have exercised or even during. The most common of these is the “runner’s high”, that many experience if they decide to run long distance. However, weightlifters and other types of fitness lovers will have some sort of endorphin rush whether they are in the middle of a workout or just rounding one off.
If you do feel tired in the middle of the day, it can be a good idea to try out a little cardio workout to wake you up. It will refresh your muscles and get your blood circulation going – everything you need to feel a little more awake! Doing some jumping jacks or mountain climbers in the middle of wherever you happen to be might feel a little odd, but it can quickly help you to feel rejuvenated and ready to continue your day.
Have a Caffeinated Drink
Those searching for a buzz straight away should think about grabbing a caffeinated drink. This can get you perked up and to continue with your day in no time. It is little wonder that so many people choose to grab a caffeinated drink of some sort when they feel a little tired. Since many of them also come with sugar, they are one of the fastest ways for you to perk up and feel more awake.
Of course, you also need to consider that caffeine can also cause an addiction if you drink too much of it. You could start out with just one cup of coffee a day, but soon find yourself needing a lot more to be able to get through daylight hours. The crash from caffeine can also be horrible to deal with, especially if you decide that you want to quick cold turkey and get some symptoms of caffeine withdrawal. Of course, drinking caffeine too late can also disrupt your sleeping patterns. You don’t want to get in a position where you need to stay awake with caffeine but also can’t get to sleep because of it.
Higher Quality Sleep
If you are still feeling tired throughout the day, you should look to your nights. You might be prone to tossing and turning, or you could be the type to stare at the ceiling for hours. Doing so will only take away from your rest time, and it will make you feel more tired throughout the day.
Start by ensuring that your bed is the best place for you to go to sleep in. It needs to be comfortable, but it also needs to support you in the right places. Ideally, you want your shoulders, spine, and hips to all be nicely aligned regardless of the position that you find comfiest to rest in. This will help you to get a more restful night’s sleep, and could also help with that tossing and turning.
Pay attention to the amount of sleep that you are getting too. We need between 7 and 9 hours of sleep – too little and we are going to be sleep deprived but too much and we can actually become overtired. You need to find the right amount for you and strive to get that each and every night.
Take the time to work out what it could be that is making you drowsy throughout the day. Chances are that it will be a very easy thing to fix. You need to make sure that you have enough energy to take on anything that you could face in the day. No one should feel drowsy as they go about their daily business. Start making some changes that could help you to feel more awake and energized no matter how long and busy your days might be.
