by Garrett Brown
I see a sunrise on my drive to work
Every morning
And though I hate the job,
I love the home it buys
And the good times it holds inside
People told me not to grow up fast
But you’ve no control over time
Adulthood only has to be present in the mind
You can always be a kid still paying bills
Chasing thrills, and girls, and laughing so hard it kills
I fear God but no man of flesh and blood
For he can’t do to me a thing that hasn’t been done
And if you know my story you know it’s true
I’ve hit, kicked, and bruised
Tattered and beaten black and blue
But through it all, I still see from my eyes
The sun peaking above the mountains still on the rise
And how the orange of a sunset skews
The evening sight of an Atlantic Ocean view
