An Unsung Hero

Standing alone by a new grave,

I lower my head in prayer, blessed,

Thankful for the sacrifice you gave.

Clutched to my aching breast

Is your triangular folded flag.

I grip it tight in reverence,

Thinking of a man too humble to brag,

standing up in his country’s defense.

He was called away to fight

In a far off desert land.

Donning the uniform was right,

patches showed his Squadron’s brand.

He stood tall, strong and brave

through smoke, fire and bullets.

His life blood as sacrifice he gave.

It hurts me when the world forgets

The devotion of an unsung hero. God please look upon him here below.
