HJ: Do you have any words or advice that you would like to lend to Veterans that might help guide them as they transition out of the military?
Jason: It is never too early to start planning your extraction from the military. I see way too many veterans not using the benefits they are given to attend classes while they are still on Active Duty. Education is key in many positions outside of the military and that is something to start working on as soon as you come in, not as soon as you get out. For those looking to get into the government sector or civilian police, start applying early and often. Many times, you will not be selected on your very first application and the process takes several tries to perfect. There is nothing wrong with starting to apply for these types of positions a year out from your ETS date.
Many of these jobs require many steps, to include oral boards and background checks. These can easily take up to a year to complete. So, start early and apply often so that when it does come time for you to make that transition from the military you: 1) Have multiple employment options to choose from; 2) Are leaving the military on your terms.
HJ: How can folks get involved with your mission?
Jason: The best way to get involved is by going to our website at here and learning about our mission, reading bio’s of all of the K-9 Heroes in our program, visiting our shop where you can donate for one of our many items that represent our cause, or donating through our direct link to help us care for a K-9 Hero in retirement.
To see the direct impact we are making every day where I post receipts of bills we are paying, to stories of K-9’s in need, follow us at Project K-9 Hero on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
We are constantly looking to expand our program with corporate partnerships. If you own or operate a business who is looking to give back to a non-profit like ours, please reach out to me directly. We are continually trying to develop ways to cross market and co-promote other brands to a new pool of potential clients or supporters for each of our organizations. These K-9’s have dedicated their career to protecting our communities and families, so I will spend the rest of my career protecting them.
Respectfully,
Jason Johnson – Founder of Project K-9 Hero
