by Daniel Clancy
Hell is war on earth
I’ve seen the worst in man
We all turn back into animals
You still don’t understand
Trapped in this glass house
We’re slowly dying in this sand
I’ve heard a “ wise “ man say
Survival of the fittest
Only the strong survive
The same men have forgotten
Violence is my occupation
It’s where I learned to thrive
I’ll walk through this fire until I’m done
These wars are not designed to to be won
Wages by cowards wearing suits
While they’re protected with our guns
They’re still making billions
Off the backs of our dead sons

In his upcoming book, The Rose That Grew From Sand, Daniel Clancy, a retired Marine Corps and Army infantryman with over 20 years of service, offers a raw and unflinching look at war. Through stark and visceral poetry, he captures the violence of the battlefield and the deeper battles soldiers face when they come home—grappling with PTSD, mental health struggles, and the difficult readjustment to civilian life.
