Author’s Note: While this article is going to be published under my byline, I can’t take credit for it. Most of the content is from an anonymous Facebook post that popped up in my timeline earlier today. I did add a bit to it, but the main idea was someone else’s. And the main idea is this: due to what we know (the “because” in the below article) and the things we’re uncertain about (the “if” in the article), the best “common-sense gun law” is the one that allows citizens to keep their guns. I’ll be keeping mine… what about you? This first appeared in The Havok Journal on March 28, 2019.
Because I believe that I am ultimately responsible for my own safety and security, and not “the government,” I’ll be keeping my guns.
If Trump is literally Hitler, I’ll be keeping my guns.
Because “Antifa” and “fascists” are two sides of the same violent, authoritarian coin, I’ll be keeping my guns.
If Trump is colluding with Russia, I’ll be keeping my guns.
Because the Supreme Court has decided that police in America have “no duty to protect” us, I’ll be keeping my guns.
If Trump didn’t collude with Russia, and there really is a “far-left conspiracy” to launch a coup against him, I’ll be keeping my guns.
Because you can vote your way into socialism but you’ll have to shoot your way out, I’ll be keeping my guns.
If climate change will destroy civilization in 12 years, I’ll be keeping my guns.
Because it took the cops in New Zealand 36 minutes to respond to the biggest mass shooting their country has ever had, I’ll be keeping my guns.
If court decisions lead to protesting and riots, I’ll be keeping my guns.
Because white supremacy and the KKK are on the rise, I’ll be keeping my guns.
If local law enforcement will not help ICE round up criminal immigrants, I’ll be keeping my guns.
Because vicious violent criminals continue to murder police officers, I’ll be keeping my guns.
If vicious police officers continue to murder innocent civilians, I’ll be keeping my guns.
Because self-interested politicians refuse to protect our borders, I’ll be keeping my guns.
If politicians want to enact new gun laws, while not enforcing current gun laws, I’ll be keeping my guns.
Because people say I have no reason for owning a gun, I’ll be keeping my guns.
If politicians refuse to follow their oath of office, I’ll be keeping my guns.
Because the soap box, the jury box, and the voting box are only good if they are backed by the cartridge box, I’ll be keeping my guns.
Specifically because you don’t want me to have them, and if I don’t have guns I’ll be utterly at the mercy of those who do, I’ll be keeping my guns.
Now you understand.
