Every business out there should be doing whatever they can to make for a more sustainable future, right? Besides, it’s getting to the point where there’s a bigger and bigger sustainable energy movement anyway. But sadly, not all businesses can (like a lack of having the means), or some businesses sadly just don’t care. Thankfully, though, most governments are the world are slowly doing what they can to help make the future a little greener.
Sure, maybe not the whole Solar Punk sort of utopian, but who knows, maybe that will be the future. But anyway, petrol and diesel cars won’t be ruling the world forever, and as a small business owner with a fleet, it’s something you have to keep in mind.
Actually, the EU’s already put its foot down with a 2035 ban on new petrol and diesel cars. The UK’s cutting it even closer with a 2030 deadline, and Japan’s hopping on board somewhere between 2030 and 2035. Okay, so what’s the translation here? Well, the gas-guzzlers are on their way out, and if your business is hoping to cling to them, well, the future is probably going to hit you pretty hard.
The Clock’s Ticking
2030 sounds far off until you realize it’s basically just a couple of contract renewals away. While sure, petrol and diesel aren’t just going to just disappear, instead they’re about to get a lot more expensive and way less practical. Basically, governments are turning up the pressure, and customers love a company that looks eco-friendly. So, hanging onto fossil fuel fleets will just get too expensive, and in the long run, it’s far from safe for a business.
But What’s the Best Way to Shift?
Honestly, this really is a fair question to wonder about because going green doesn’t inherently mean you need to instantly ditch your fleet starting tomorrow and then replace it. Instead, you can see it more like baby steps. For example, you could just go ahead and look into some hybrids or even an EV and just start testing those out. Maybe you could just go ahead and start looking into charging setups, keep an eye on how far the cars go, and how far they really need to go.
But the earlier those tweaks start, the less painful it’ll be when the ban actually lands. And to be totally honest here, fuel prices aren’t exactly playing nice. Every extra gallon burned now is money better spent elsewhere.
Look into Tech that Actually Helps
Obvious enough, right? But yeah, just generally speaking, this is where smart tools make life easier. Like, using a GPS tracking for fleets gives you a clear picture of how vehicles are being used, which routes waste fuel, and where you can shave off costs. Of course, using a GPS is just one example (and a smart one at that), but it honestly helps with giving you and your team a reality check so all of you can plan better and ahead.
The Future isn’t Optional
Petrol and diesel bans aren’t a “maybe,” they’re a done deal. Maybe it’s not everywhere around the world at this time, but it’s going to eventually get to the point where it really will be just about every country out there. And so if businesses don’t start adjusting now, then chances are, they’re not going to survive. Basically, the road to a low-carbon future isn’t waiting, so the question is simple: do you want to ease into it on your terms, or get dragged into it kicking and screaming?
