Internet issues can occur due to multiple reasons. From equipment failure to maintenance and connection failure, any reason can cut you off from the internet. However, you should not panic or get frustrated because that’s not how you’ll resolve the issue.
We’re listing some easy fixes that you can run whenever you face internet issues. Keeping these fixes handy will make it easier to resolve minor internet issues at home. However, before you use these fixes, you should ensure that there’s not any issue with your provider.
As highlighted earlier, maintenance and technical issues can also cause internet problems at your end. For that purpose, you should contact your internet service provider (ISP). You can use several methods for this purpose.
For instance, if your ISP is Xfinity, then you can contact them through their Xfinity phone number to know if there’s an issue at their end. If not, then you can let the support know the problem so that they can get it fixed.
Otherwise, below are some easy-to-implement fixes for resolving internet issues right away:
Rebooting Devices
Sometimes, a simple reboot resolves pertaining issues, with its with your device or your internet connection. In our current case, rebooting your internet device as well as the devices that you’ve connected with it will help resolve the issue.
This happens because rebooting reestablishes the connection with your internet provider and helps transfer the packets again. With a stable internet connection, the packets are easily transferred and the devices can send and receive data smoothly.
Moreover, the devices themselves, when rebooted, connect again to the internet. This allows the devices to get an IP address from the router and the DHCP configured automatically.
Clearing the Cache
The cache is a temporary storage medium just like RAM. However, it’s used to store the most frequently used processes so that they can be loaded immediately for the user’s use. In order to do so, the cache needs to use the device’s resources and the internet.
If you’re using your internet browser and keep most of the tabs opened while restoring them, the browser creates a cache for its use too. Again, this cache uses resources such as memory, processing power, internet speed, etc.
If you have too many tabs opened and restored, you’ll probably experience slowness in your internet speed since most of it is going to the cache. Hence, if you’re facing such an issue, then clearing the cache is a good idea.
You can clear your device’s cache as well as your browser’s cache to experience the difference. But make sure you have adequate backup since the cache stores password inputs too. Clearing it will remove those entries and you’ll have to reenter your passwords again.
Check for Updates
Whether it’s your OS’s updates, network drivers, or your internet router’s firmware updates, you should pay attention to their availability and installation. Doing so will make it easier to install these important updates and stay on top of the performance.
Most people think that allowing updates on their devices will slow them down. It does since the updates need to be downloaded, which automatically consumes the internet. However, you can choose to manually download these and then pick a time when these can be installed.
In addition, you should check for firmware updates on your internet router too. These updates are meant to strengthen the performance of the router, mitigating any security loopholes.
Replacing the Equipment
Sometimes, the issue is just not in your control. When such an instance occurs, the fault is usually reported within the internet device that you’re using. Although internet gateways are manufactured to work for several years; however, technical issues can affect their performance.
In some cases, the internet signals don’t spread properly due to the model of the router being old. When you’re facing such an issue, you can always depend upon using a Wi-Fi extender that will help extend the Wi-Fi signals in your place.
However, an extender only amplifies the signals, not the speed. If you still experience slack, then you’ll need to change your internet plan and get something with more speed. But, there are times when you need to change the internet router itself.
In that case, you’ll need to inquire from the provider whether they’ll provide you with a router exchange or not. If you want you can check out the market for some internet routers. You can also check gaming routers since these are manufactured and configured to provide the best gaming experience on Wi-Fi. However, these are costlier than regular routers, so you better keep that in mind.
Closing Thoughts
Although you should reach out to your provider’s customer service whenever you face an internet issue since that’s what they’re here for, but, using the abovementioned methods, you can also DIY your internet hassles. Just don’t get into technical fixes since there’s a great chance you might ruin the setup and it’ll cost more on the fixes.
