| Sweat drips down my face and slicks my hands, as I crawl forward to the prone position. M-16 Training on a hot July afternoon. The ghost of a Doughboy on my left, a Vietnam grunt on my right, as I crawl forward to the prone position. 120 rounds, brass casings rain down, lead flies downrange toward a man-sized target. A Vietnam grunt on my right. Past American Patriots have fired their guns. Here on this sunny day, no man shoots back. Lead flies downrange toward a man sized target. Red Flag means a live firing exercise. Is the line ready? Clear left and right. Fire! Here on this sunny day, no man shoots back. Ghostly doughboys, grunts, and I count casings and await orders. Is the line ready? Clear left and right. Fire! Sweat drips down my face and slicks my hands, M-16 Training on a hot July afternoon. |
