For a long time, men’s grooming routines were quite simple. Having a good skincare and haircare routine wasn’t common.
That is old news. Men’s selfcare is becoming normalized, and even the standard for modern men.
Having a sharp cut, clear skin, clean nails, and even searching for laser hair removal back services now sit in the same talk. The point is not in vanity. The point is care.
When you look put together, you often feel more ready for work, dates, and daily life. Grand View Research estimated the U.S. men’s grooming products market at $46.54 billion in 2023 and said it was expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.3% from 2024 to 2030.
You don’t have to go and buy twenty new products. You just have to do the right few things well, and do them often.
Grooming is care, not theater
Having a good grooming routine doesn’t mean that you’re chasing perfection. It just means paying attention.
A clean neckline tells people you notice details. So does skin that looks calm, not dry and tired. These things do not need to be loud. In fact, the best grooming rarely is.
That is why the best routines are simple. You should be able to stick to them on busy days. If your routine only works when life is easy, it is too much.
Start with your skin
A lot of men are using skincare and sharing their routines on social media. Taking good care of your skin is no longer taboo, no matter what gender you are.
If you are just starting, you do not need to have a shelf full of bottles. You need a cleanser, a moisturizer, and sunscreen in the morning. At night, cleanse again and use moisturizer. If you shave, use products that calm the skin instead of irritating it.
Using sunscreen is very important. The American Academy of Dermatology says that by age 65, men are two times more likely to get melanoma than women of the same age. That alone makes daily SPF worth the effort.
Also, it’s important to note that you should look at the ingredients and make sure they are high-quality. Research says that around 83% of Gen Z prefer organic options.
If your skin feels tight after washing, your cleanser may be too harsh. If you have oily skin, use a light gel moisturizer. Also, your shaving routine is important. Stop using dull blades and heavy pressure. Let the razor glide. Do not scrape.
The goal is skin that looks healthy, feels calm, and helps you feel good.
Your hair should look cared for
A good haircut can completely change your look.
The right cut can clean up your profile, balance your features, and make your mornings much easier. That is why a good barber matters. They will help you make the right choice, explain what products you should use, and find a style that fits your face and routine.
This matters even more if you have a beard. Your beard should always look shaped and intentional. Use beard oil only if your beard feels dry. You do not need to drown in it.
And if your hairline, beard, or brows grow fast, build that into your schedule. Grooming works best when it is planned before things start to look rough.

Body grooming is personal, but it still needs a plan
This is where the modern standard has changed the most.
Men talk more openly now about chest hair, back hair, taking care of their brows, and body odor. That is a good thing. Silence never made anyone look better. What matters is choosing what feels right for you, then keeping it tidy.
Just figure out what method helps you achieve what you want. Trimmers work well if you want to have a lot of control. Shaving gives a close finish, but needs more upkeep. Laser can help if you are tired of doing the same thing again and again.
Smell clean first, great second
Fragrance should come after hygiene, not instead of it.
Your body wash, shampoo, breath, and laundry all leave an impression before your cologne does. If those basics are off, no amount of cologne can save you. But once those basics are right, it becomes a strong finishing touch.
You just don’t want to overdo it. Aim for people to notice when they get close, not before you enter the room.
However, finding the perfect fragrance isn’t easy. Try to find a scent that represents you and works for your skin type. You don’t have to buy full-sized bottles right off the bat. Try out different options before you commit.
Make your routine easy to repeat
A good routine should feel like maintenance. It doesn’t have to stress you out.
Here is a simple version that works for most men:
- Morning: cleanse, moisturize, SPF, style your hair.
- Night: cleanse, moisturize.
- Two or three times a week: shave or trim, check your nails, and tidy your beard or brows.
- Every few weeks: get a haircut.

That is a good routine that you can stick to. You can add more later if you want. For example, if your skin is a bit dry, you can use a hydration mask once a week. Also, if your under eyes are strong, you can find a good eye cream.
But add steps one at a time. That way, you can figure out what helps.
Just being intentional can get you far
The old standard asked men to look presentable with almost no effort. The new standard asks for something better: attention, consistency, and self-respect.
You do not need to look polished every second. You just need a routine that keeps you clean, sharp, and comfortable in your own skin.
That is grooming beyond the basics. It is not extra. It is the new norm.
