On November 5th, I opted to do a media blackout. I assumed Trump would lose and I would have to spend the next four years having to worry about the government taking my guns, paying more of my hard-earned money in taxes to support folks who don’t want to work, and so on. So, I was pleasantly surprised when, I woke up on the 6th to watch the news, to see that Trump had won by a landslide.
I think like most Americans, I vote for the candidate whose political views are closest to their own and are most likely to protect those interests. In other words, I’m not in love with the guy but, for the most part, he took care of what was important to me from 2016 through 2020, so I’m hopeful he’ll do the same in his second term.
I have a Roku TV. For those unfamiliar with Roku, it’s basically a life support system for every pay-to-watch channel out there, Netflix, Prime, Hulu, etc. As a 54-year-old who is used to scrolling the channels to find something to watch, I’m not a big fan of on-demand only, which is basically what Roku is. It really sucks during football season because you must be a paid subscriber to half a dozen channels just to watch the games. But I digress.
It does have one cool feature though, a live TV section where you can view free stuff. This includes about thirty news channels, many being local Mainstream Media (MSM) affiliates. You can catch up on the news in Charlotte, Orlando, Hartford, Portland and so on.
As I watched the news about the election, I wasn’t surprised to see a lot of long-faced reporters across the country discussing the election results. They reported in somber, serious tones that Trump had won by a landslide. They also felt the need to mention he is a convicted felon, January 6th, pending litigation against him and so on. There were stories about how to deal with the depression and stress the election results would bring the loyal viewers. Even media outlets in red states reported the election news like it was an active shooter event at a school.
Newsflash to the MSM, she lost. Despite the about face MSM did with her, initially calling her one of the worst Vice Presidents ever, to the new version of the “truth” where she was a bastion for freedom and honesty, the perfect counter for the evil orange man. The fact that hundreds of reporters spouting the same lies had no effect on the election should tell MSM something. You are rapidly becoming irrelevant. Completely, totally irrelevant. Very few people turn to their television, or a newspaper, for news because they aren’t reporting the truth. They are delivering a message.
Right now, it’s a leftist message. Why? I don’t exactly know. I’m sure there is money involved in it, as that is all the media cares about, as in more money to report it with a left tilt. But effective November 6th, 2024, that isn’t the case anymore. Wokeism is dying and will soon lay his/her/their head to rest. Americans want what’s best for Americans, not special interest groups supported by corrupt politicians and their voices in MSM. And that goes for all Americans, Democrats, Republicans, Liberals, Conservatives, etc.
If MSM wants to stay in business over the next four years, the business model no one is going to tune into is pointing out every real, perceived or fake failure Trump has. Making mountains out of molehills, like when he butt dialed “Covfefe” (remember that one?) For anyone who wants to hear about that crap, turn into The View (“now, live from Canada!”) More Americans are more likely to listen to Joe Rogan than they are anyone at NBC, CBS or ABC. Similarly, when they turn to the internet to get information, they avoid Google and opt for non-politically aligned web browsers like Duck Duck Go.
I’d say try reporting the truth but that is clearly too much to ask. Maybe balance it out. For every “Covfefe”, point out a “Bidenesque” error like falling asleep during a major political event, major memory lapses, and incontinence.
While I’m up on my soapbox, to our military leaders, same message. With wokeism over, you might want to try to focus on such things as combat readiness, taking care of troops, mold…Start doing that, and you might actually get young people excited about enlisting. If you can’t do that, retire, or go work for General Dynamics. A word of caution, if you do that you may not be employed for long, as I think we’ll see less taxpayer dollars going to overseas conflicts that just so happen to fuel the military industrial complex.
Finally, don’t let the divisive media divide us any further. We’re Americans first and foremost. We all have friends with opposing or different views. Let’s embrace and celebrate that and ignore the negativity.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to try to figure out how to watch Monday Night Football on the Roku.
