Wooo Hoooo!! … This election is finally over; or it will be by the time this article is published.
I quit paying attention to or participating in elections during the last week because I make myself available to drive people to the polls on election day. I stop expressing my opinion the week prior. I don’t want anyone to be reluctant to accept a ride based on my political vitriol.
The only wrong vote is the vote not cast.
As I write this, I have no actual clue of who won… but I do know who lost… We did
The American People lost this election when the GOP decided to let a field of 17 open the door for the Trump to attain the candidacy with the lowest % of party support in US history. He would never have won if the educated vote wasn’t split 5 ways. The election results were set in stone when the DNC covertly ushered Hillary into the candidacy.
I know that on the morning of the 9th we woke up with one of the most detestable individuals on the earth as President Elect.
I know that the only ones who actually won are the two candidates and the ad agencies who contracted with the campaigns.
I predict that the word “Trump” will soon go by the way of “Santorum” or “Clinton” in The Urban Dictionary and in the minds of the masses. I love the English language… it has so few rules.
Soon, whole communities will refer to getting screwed by the local used car dealer as “getting Trumped” or extravagant foreplay followed by the disappointment of raw oyster like impotence, as “Trumping”; when a pro golfer hooks a shot into a hazard it’ll be called a “Trump shot”.
I can see some really creative entries in the Trump’s future but as humorous as this election cycle became… we ARE going to face consequences.
The rest of the world held their breath hoping we would come to our senses and cancel the election until the parties could muster up acceptable candidates – but we didn’t, and now we have to deal with the results.
We have a lying cheating, conniving, narcissistic, demagogue, void of integrity,
with absolutely zero concern for this Republic or its people, as the next president.
The fact of this election is… we all got “Trumped”.
The Greens and Libertarians are wagging their heads and asking the rest of us: “WHAT DID YOU DO?”
Our enemies are laughing at us and our current friends are experiencing diplomatic dysentery at the thought of what to expect in January. The stock market either spiked up or tanked at opening bell, but you can be sure both the new President and the losing candidate made a mint on it.
I read an op-ed in a Christian print publication this week, the author was trying to instill hope by quoting the last entry of Anne Frank’s diary as:
“. . . for the past 2 years we have lived in fear – Now we live in hope”
It was a good message – too bad it’s BS, those words were spoken by the actress who played Anne, not by Anne. According to my Dutch copy of her Diary, Anne Frank’s actual last entry was a sad assessment of her own situation ending with: “al was het maar er waren geen andere mensen in de wereld.”
“. . . if only there were no other people in the world”
It will take more than happy little thoughts to fix what we have done this time.
I’ll wait a week or so then decide if I need to change my name to Cooter and start researching the feasibility of avoiding sobriety until the next election, but there are in fact, a few things we can take comfort in.
The Republic will survive – no matter who was elected. We have survived much worse; we will survive this debacle.
The founders knew we would eventually degrade the Republic to the point we have achieved today and they included clauses in the Constitution to make sure the Republic survived long enough for us to come to our senses and recover.
The Founders were all either Sons of parents or grandparents who fled persecution. They were some smart guys; true innovators of liberty, they tried to think of everything, then they came back a few years later to make sure they didn’t miss anything.
Depending on who was elected, the rants will vary some but the same basic protections are in place to block ignorance from either side. Be assured, the President-elect can’t actually do the things you fear she is going to do, and her opponent couldn’t have either.
Hillary’s anti-gun agenda and the Trump’s rants about re-writing the bill of rights to meet his nationalist desires have no more substance than a fart in a high wind.
Your guns are safe – The 2nd specifically denies the feds the authority to limit firearms possession and the 10th specifically reserves that power to the States respectively, or to the people. The 14th demands that the law be applied equally without respect to race, creed or religion.
The limitations of firearm ownership in 18 U.S.C. § 922 are all based on some other condition, not the revocation of the 2nd. The right to bear arms can only be limited based on some other condition and requires due process and is not applied to anyone outside those parameters.
The Trump’s SS-esque Stop and Frisk program that Giuliani and his cronies tout as so wonderful is already deemed illegal by SCOTUS under the 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 14th. The Breitbart claim that SCOTUS ruled Stop and Frisk is constitutional is easily refuted by actually reading Terry -v- Ohio. But sites like Breitbart, Stormfront and Conservative Post don’t concern themselves with facts or actual journalism.
The Trump can’t follow through with his assertion that when he is president everyone will have to worship the same god any more than Hillary can make the No-Fly list a No-Buy list.
Racism and excluding certain Americans from the political process or Newt’s suggestion that those of unacceptable faiths be forced to denounce their religion or be deported is simply not possible – no matter how hard the far right wants it, Article V prevents it.
I realize their are factions who have made it clear they want to amend the Constitution to make the US a Nationalist, religious democracy, but it is extremely hard to amend the constitution without a coup and replacing the high courts.
Politicizing the Supreme court is probably the most anti-American political act I can think of. Making a list of possible appointees based on their politics and using it as a campaign promise is undermining the entire foundation of our justice system – both major candidates have promised to politicize SCOTUS.
It is one of the first things every tyrant in modern history has done. There are those who want you to believe that Gun Control is the tool of tyranny – Wrong, that story holds less water than the myth of “Common sense Gun control”; neither Hitler, Stalin, Saddam, or Mao implemented any gun control… they knew it was useless.
Modern tyrants go after the courts; they mold the courts to their political agenda.
Justice Holmes is rolling over in his grave at the anti-Constitutional antics being suggested by some on the right.
I’ve studied SCOTUS for years, the men and women on the bench are historically above reproach. Even Justice Thomas has learned to act like an adult in an effort to be taken serious by the rest of the bench. The relationship between Justice Ginsberg and Justice Scalia is a perfect example, and who on the left wasn’t fooled by Chief Justice Roberts?
The Supreme Court does not, and is not supposed to represent or serve the people, they do not determine guilt or innocence, culpability or exoneration and they don’t represent the government either.
The Supreme court has only one responsibility… to interpret the Constitution. Nothing more; Nothing less.
Rest easy friends, we have a Constitution to prevent the US from slipping into the Greek style democracy, and to prevent whichever of these fools was elected from doing any real damage to the Republic.
BUT… liberty, justice and our system of government are all at risk as a result of this election – Not from either candidate, they are little more than festering zits on the nation’s political butt. We survived Bush’s corruption, Reagan’s senility and even Obama’s Buffoonery. We can survive the Fuhrer or Cruella De Ville with little effort.
The problem is the ignorance and gullibility that has infected much of the electorate. Worse is that many of those who were able to shrug-off 2 years of foolishness in stereo are despondent regarding the political process.
The real risk to our system is the number of young voters who
will be left with that Toe Cheese taste in their mouths after
what we experienced over the last 2 years and won’t take part out of disgust.
The result could once again be a generation that has no faith in the system, one that rarely takes part or votes.
It was getting better, the last 3 elections had a positive effect on participation and people actually informing themselves, but the last 2 years set us back to 1972.
Complacency in future elections will open the door for the next Trump or Hillary, the gullible and foolish will always participate, all their masters have to do is wind em’ up and watch em’ go.
We need to fix this before the next election.
We need to make sure whoever it was who won – they don’t get a second term.
It’s time to mix it up a little, get out of this archaic 2 party rut we have found ourselves in, maybe elect a dozen or so third party legislators to give Congress a kick in the butt.
Don’t blame yourself if you voted for the Trump or for Hillary; you had to choose an evil.
Blame yourself, if you voted for Hillary or the Trump because you actually believed they were a reasonable choice.
Everyone else Relax… the Republic will survive.
Time has a tendancy to work things out; it is one of its basic qualities.
Now we just need to put the ignorance aside, come together and mitigate the damages.
We need to ruck up and be part of the solution.
